Construction Update

Thanks for your continued patience and support! It is a heavy construction season in downtown Indianapolis as our city completes a number of infrastructure improvements. The Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick has three corridors under construction. When we're done our residents and visitors will enjoy this one-of-a-kind bike trail and pedestrian path. Here's where we're working:

CAPITOL AVE. & ALABAMA ST. SPURS:

Construction is about complete. Decorative thermo-plastic crosswalks are one of the remaining items to be installed. Installation should occur in the coming weeks.

SOUTHEAST CORRIDOR (Virginia Ave.):

--Curbs and concrete paver base at the corner of Pennsylvania and Washington are complete.

--Construction of the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Walk Monument should begin shortly at the corner of Washington, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

--VIRGINIA AVE BETWEEN PENNSYLVANIA & DELAWARE TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: As of June 1, the one-block section of Virginia Ave that runs in front of areas such as the 500 Festival Building and Allen Plaza will be closed to southbound traffic. Traffic will be allowed to travel one-way north ONLY.

--Perpendicular parking on the north side of Virginia between Pennsylvania and Delaware will be changed to angled parking during construction. There will be no parking on the south side of Virginia between Pennsylvania and Delaware during construction.

--Concrete paver base completed on the corner of Delaware and Virginia before the entrance to the Virginia Ave garage.

--We will be working on paver base along New Jersey Street.

--Non-trail side sidewalk and curb ramps at South and Fletcher are complete.

--Utilities are being relocated from South to the Interstate.

--Interstate to Fountain Square has some utility relocation work happening and foundations are being placed.

--PROSPECT STREET CLOSING: Due to hydrant relation work, Prospect Street will be closing on Monday, June 6. The closing was anticipated to last through Thursday the 9th, but corrections of unforeseen conditions will last at least through June 17. A detour route has been posted.

--WOODLAWN AVE: Traffic on Woodlawn Ave will be affected in the coming days and week by relocation work being done by AT&T.

--We will be working on water line and fire hydrant relocations throughout the project area.
