Art Squared, Peace Walk, Chatham Alley
It’s September—and that means Art Squared is coming up on the 17th! This day of fun features three distinct activities: Masterpiece in a Day, the Fountain Square Art Fair, and the Fountain Square Art Parade. Try your hand at creating art and music, browse the art fair—maybe take home a new item or a few new items to spice up your life, and participate in the parade or just cheer from the sidewalk. Find more information, including the schedule and registration details at http://www.discoverfountainsquare.com/ArtSquared/index.cfm
In Peace Walk news, the satellite luminary gardens are nearing completion. Abraham Lincoln’s garden is finished, plantings included. The Martin Luther King, Jr. garden is still under construction: the glass is up, the terrazzo is laid, and we look forward to its completion in the near future.
Sean Derry’s scent vault in Chatham Passage needed to be recharged. If you think your nose is picking up the sweet, floral scent more than in late July, that’s because we put a new perfume canister in the scent vault.
Please continue supporting the independent businesses in the Fountain Square district mentioned in August’s Trail Talk, and add those on Washington Street to your list of places to visit.

--Virginia under the garage and CSX: Concrete work is being finished and pavers are being placed for the "Swarm Street" project by Acconci Studio.
--Virginia from CSX to New Jersey: Pavers are being placed between CSX and Louisiana. Prep work for the plaza will begin on the northwest corner of Virginia and Louisiana, followed by concrete curb, concrete paver base, and then paver placement.

--Virginia from East to the Interstate: This area will be built in 2012. It has become clear for the construction delays north and south of this area that we could not finish this area before the end on the year. The impacts of having the construction site open and traffic restricted over the winter helped drive the decision to delay the start of construction to Spring 2012.
--Virginia from the Interstate to Prospect: Work in this area is moving again. The under the sidewalk vaults at PNC Bank have been filled. The environmental testing of the streetcar track ties indicated that we did not have hazardous material issues. The State Historical Preservation Office has agreed to the removal of the tracks and ties. Concrete curb is being placed in from Prospect to Woodlawn. It will be followed with stone subbase and concrete paver base. The current plan is to work from Prospect Street north to the Interstate. Concrete curb between the Trail and the parking lot at Coop’s Autos should be placed this week.
West Corridor
--Indiana Ave. to New York St.: Pavers have been installed everywhere expect for the half block south of Michigan, where we are working through an unexpected utility conflict. West side corners are curb ramps are being rebuilt. The northwest corners of Michigan and Blackford, and of New York and Blackford should be constructed this week. The southwest corners should be constructed next week.
--Military Park: Pavers have been installed. Lighting has been installed, but is not connected to electrical service yet. Sodding should begin later in September.
--White River State Park: Stone subbase is currently being placed behind the State Museum and concrete paver base placement could begin by the end of the week. The temporary sidewalk has been installed on Washington in front of the Eiteljorg and State Museum. Demolition along Washington should begin this week.
