Central Corridor public meeting April 27

Utilities have been working on Washington St. since December preparing for the Cultural Trail's construction on the north side of Washington St. from Alabama St. to West St. The Indiana Departement of Transportation has officially awarded the contract to Linkel Construction.

A public meeting will be held Wednesday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Conrad Hotel, Vienna South conference room, 50 W. Washington St., to meet Linkel representatives and other Cultural Trail construction team members to discuss specific construction issues, locations and deadlines. This meeting is free and open to the public.

Other construction updates

Construction continues on three other corridors.  Here are the latest updates (see more photos on our Facebook page):

Capitol Ave. and Alabama St.
(two blocks: (1) Alabama St. between Market St. and Washington St. (2) Capitol Ave. between Washington St. and Maryland St.)
-- all pavers installed on both blocks; mainly awaiting landscape installation (Photo: Capitol Ave. looking north from Maryland St.)
-- Lincoln luminary garden underway; terrazzo plaza being installed; glass panel to be installed soon
-- completing pedestrian ramp bumpout on southeast corner of Capitol Ave. and Maryland St.

Anticipated completion date: May 31, 2011

Southeast Corridor
(Virginia Ave. from Washington St. and Pennsylvania St. to Prospect and Shelby streets)
-- from Interstate to Shelby and Prospect streets -- continue grading and installing irrigation and electrical
-- South St./East St./Fletcher Ave. -- removing and replacing ramps to realign them; traffic will shift slightly on southbound East St.

Anticipated completion date:  Washington St. to South St. on Virginia Ave. -- September 2011 (hardscape and landscaping); South St. to Prospect St. on Virginia Ave. -- December 2011 (hardscape), landscaping in Spring 2012.

West Corridor
(On Blackford St. from Indiana Ave. to White River State Park)
Hunt Paving will be the contractor on the West Corridor. Construction is scheduled to begin in May.

Anticipated completion dates:
-- Indiana Ave. to New York St. -- complete by August 15 (hardscape only);
-- New York St. to Canal and White River State Park -- work will be done July 1 - August 31 (hardscape only);
-- All other hardscape installation is scheduled to be completed by mid-December.
-- Landscaping is scheduled to be complete by mid-May 2012.

After nearly six years as the manager of public outreach and fundraising for the Cultural Trail, Gail Payne will be leaving the project at the end of April.
