Important Construction Update: Washington Street

The northeast corner of West and Washington streets will be closed to pedestrians starting this Monday, August 22 so that the construction of the Cultural Trail may be completed in this area.

Construction crews will have signs up on the northwest corner of West and Washington streets directing east bound people to go south. There will also be signs up on the southeast corner directing north bound people (and those that followed the detour on the northwest corner) to go east and cross at Missouri. People coming from the north will be directed to go east down Robert Orr through the middle of the Government Center. Access to the stairs on the south west corner of the building will remain open at all times.

Work has begun on the northwest corner of Senate and Washington. There is no longer be a safe crossing west of Senate. People are being directed to the northeast corner and are asked to cross Washington Street east of Senate. This will be the new permanent route once the trail is completed.

Thanks for your continued patience as we work to complete the Cultural Trail and keep pedestrians and cyclists safe in our city.

Recent Press

Indianapolis was recently cited by Away.com as one of the best cities in the world to see from a bicycle seat. We're in good company, too. Seven cities are mentioned including Amsterdam, Cape Town, and Portland. Check out the article here.

There was a thoughtful article in the Indianapolis Business Journal about design in Indianapolis, which mentioned the Cultural Trail. It is worth a read. Click here.

Forbes featured Indianapolis in an article about great urban escapes. Our 8-miles of connectivity along the trail are cited by the writer as one of the city's great amenities. Read the article here.

Embracing the Trail

In the early August edition of Trail Talkan August 4th display of art on the trail created by summer campers at the Herron School of Art & Design was featured. Their display was a smashing success and fun was had by all. (See image to the right.)

How are you embracing the Cultural Trail? We want to know!

Send your story and images to MTRoss@IndyCulturalTrail.org. We may feature you in a forthcoming Trail Talk and/or on the website www.IndyCulturalTrail.org.
